Our Philosophy

Technological breakthroughs are transforming the world as we know it, and promise a brighter future. What are the implications for medicine? Medical professionals face the constant evolution of their field and require continuous training if they are to stay up-to-date with the latest technological developments. This site will host a selection of interesting and topical subjects, featuring perceptive pieces that encapsulate and summarize complex ideas. A platform with articles selected and written by a medical student fascinated by technology, it is aimed at health professionals of all kinds: doctors, students of medicine, biomedical science, biotechnology, or simply emancipated patients.

FutureMedlife is a platform for optimism and progressive thinking with its sights set on a better future. If we can harness technological and scientific breakthroughs, the impact on development will be global.

FutureMedlife’s stance is clearly pro-technology. At the same time, we are aware that one of the drawbacks to so-called “disruptive” technologies is the gap between great ideas as concepts and their technological (and practical) execution. Achieving maturity in a market, or optimal (or at least minimal) functionality in a product is an arduous, long-drawn-out task for engineers. However, we are conscious that this process is essential if products are to be fully integrated into medical practice. In short, it’s infinitely easier to sell a brilliant idea than to put it into practice, solving all the technological and engineering challenges it entails.

This is why FutureMedlife’s aim is to analyze innovative ideas with scientific rigor, to assess the pros and cons of different opinions and, most of all, to encourage dialogue.

Ángela Mainat

Angela Mainat is a medical student in her fiftth year at university, with a background in marketing. Holding a degree in communication science, her initial training was in the fields of creativity and technology before she began her studies in medicine. This has had a permanent effect on her approach and understanding of medicine.

After studying in Berlin, she moved to Barcelona, where she worked in communication agencies for several years, before starting up her own company. Throughout this time, she sought out the latest innovations in technology and communications, an interest that led to her discovering the Singularity University. The Executive Program she completed there marked a turning point in her career. With a new awareness of the potential of disruptive technologies, she decided to steer her profession in a new direction and began to study medicine.

Although her studies do not leave much free time for bringing topical content to a wider audience as intended by FutureMedlife, she invests as much time as she can in staying up-to-date with the latest developments by attending conferences and interviewing leading professionals in the field.

She has two children and is the founder of AMPA Universitat, a platform for mothers and fathers studying at university.
